I'm running about 30 miles a week on the trails here in St. Charles county. I started back around June 09 on the trails at Bromelsiek Park. Eventually I found a bunch of other great trails. We really are blessed in this county with awesome trails that are well maintained. My hats off to the folks who made them and all those who help to maintain them.
My favorite trail right now is the Lewis trail. I ran it this past Tuesday, in the cold rain. It's 8.3 miles and one of the more challenging trails that I have found. It's almost all single track in the woods. It's beautiful, with a few bluffs you can stop at which overlook the Missouri river from WAY high up. I don't stop everytime, but there's a bluff at about two miles in which is just a great place to stop and have a look. It's just a little cliff jutting out, way above the trees and the river. No railing, no warning sign. I can't ever stand there without giving God some praise. It's that awesome and you ought to check it out. Like most of the other trails around here there are plenty of deer and squirrel you will see.
There is also a smaller loop trail at this same location called the Clark trail. It is 5.2 miles and also one of the more challenging trails I've found around here.
Another great thing about the Lewis and Clark trails is the choice you have in distances. You can just do the 5.2, or the 8.3, or you can make it a long run of 13.5.
Anyway, if you love trailrunning and have not tried the Lewis or Clark trails, you owe it to yourself. And I guarantee you won't be disappointed. To get there go south on Hwy 94, a couple miles south of hwy 40- I-64, once you pass the Francis Howell high school look for the next parking lot on the left side of 94.
